Welcome
the on-line home of Tourism Unlimited, a Tourism Assistance Program (TAP)
developed by the Travel, Tourism, and Recreation Resource Center and Michigan
State University Extension's Tourism Area of Expertise Team for Lake,
Manistee, Mason, Newaygo, and Oceana counties.
A TAP is a long-term research and outreach
project that brings together the many elements of a region's tourism industry
and facilitates the creation of a strategic plan through supply/demand
assessments, education, capacity building, and leadership development.
TAP-related programming is consistent with
recommendations given by tourism industry leaders before the Michigan Senate
Committee on Agriculture, Tourism, and Forestry in 2003. These recommendations
called for an increase in education and training opportunities for tourism
businesses and their employees, greater access to research and technical
assistance for local tourism organizations, and the use of research in the
development of strategic marketing plans at the state and local levels.
The Travel, Tourism and
Recreation Resource Center (TTRRC), MSU Extension, and MSU Extension's Tourism
Area of Expertise Team have successfully administered this program in the
Straits of Mackinaw area (Cheboygan and Mackinac counties), the thumb area
(Lapeer, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties), and in communities along M-66 in
central Michigan (Barry, Ionia, and Montcalm counties).
This site will allow TAP
planning committee members and partnering businesses to quickly catch
up on project-related news. For more information on the Tourism
Unlimited TAP, please contact Teresa Herbowicz at (517) 353-0793.
